summer in sf

Well, it’s summer in San Francisco. So while the rest of the world enjoys blue, sunny skies, we get to enjoy… Fog. Wind. And generally mild temperature.

Here’s to us SF’ers who make the most of it!!

Credit to Jen for the last photo… Such a great shot of me, it had to be included.

mollusk surf shop

I have to say, this is one rad surf shop. It seems most surfing-centric retail stores lately cater to the über trendy with big names and whatnot. Not Mollusk. These guys know what’s up and their shop is a reflection for their love of surfing. Sure, they have the names everyone is familiar wtth but they also have items that are off the beaten path that are, quite frankly, much nicer and more unique.

Guys, keep it up.

And to those who have not yet gone - go. Now. You can also go to Trouble Coffee and The General Store which are both one block away on Judah.

the fourth of july

Though it’s been a few weeks since we celebrated our nation’s “birthday,” I am just now getting to these images to post to the blog.

It was a quaint 4th with just a handful of good friends, new and old. For Emily and Oli, it was their first time in SF since being children. They’re grown New Yorkers now but SF still managed to show them a side they didn’t know.

As an aside, and with nothing to do with this post, I received three orders back from my lab this round and had a sense of clarity about my photography that I’ve never had before. While I’m still getting down all the nuances of shooting nothing but film (correct, these are film photographs) I feel so much better, more empowered, and more creative when I get my scans back. Not to mention there is literally little to no work needed required prior to posting. I’ll have a dedicated blog post about my thoughts soon.

Lastly, props to Carlo Silvio (@cowboycoffee) for the shot of Jen and myself. It’s the fifth one down. Carlo, for those who must know, is immediately below said aforementioned shot.

a roll of portra

Shot some time ago. I had an extra roll of portra 400 120 on me. So I shot it while I walked home.

sunday morning

Gotta have that cup of joe to get juiced up. Today also happens to be a gorgeous day in The City.

austin healey 3000 mk2

For some reason, we got the bright idea to get up at 5am on a Sunday to shoot video of this Austin Healey 3000 Mk II. Luckily, it was a gorgeous morning in San Francisco. I packed the Leica, Canon Elan 7e, Contax, Ilford XP2, Portra 800, and Fuji 400H. Richard Photo Lab just doing wonders on these scans again. Brotogs, check us out on at facebook.com/brotogs, we’re always up to something…

a sneak at the healey

Yes, another preview. Got up real early on a Sunday with “the boys” to knock out a video shoot. Snapped some stills with the Contax.

ian, di, and an impromptu shoot in the street

A combination of Portra 160 and Portra 400 (both the “new stuff”). I was really amped to shoot the 160 on the Contax and luckily I ran into Ian and Di who volunteered their time and looks to take some shots.

In keeping up with our bi-weekly meetups, the Brotogs continue to push ahead with our evenings of talking photography, video, tech, and current goings on. Be sure to like us on Facebook at facebook.com/brotogs. We’ve got some great things in the pipeline…

wrong side of the tracks

Patrick was dying to show me “this spot by the tracks.” When I asked where this spot was, I got the “I’ll know when I see it” response. Lovely. But we found it and I understood then why he was so sure this spot was dope. Check out Patrick on twitter @patrickstern and some general info here. He’s a fellow Brotog and really knows his way around the social media interwebs!
