2011 Runoffs
I recently took a racing trip with my Dad to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. It’s about an hour north of Milawuakee and sits on a beautiful 650 acre plot of land. The track itself is four miles long and is all about horsepower and high-speeds. A great place to have a race.
I wanted to chronicle more of the journey from “home base” at our shop in Santa Barbara, CA, to the track, and the action itself. Unfortunately, our primary help had to bail and I had to step up, dramatically sacrificing my shooting time. As such, the 645 stayed at home and only the Leica M6 and 50mm Summicron came. Armed with Ilford Delta 100, XP2, and Kodak Ektar I managed to get a few snaps.
It’s always a great time headed out there and hanging our with the Toyota Racing family. A great group of people to go racing with. We ended up placing the car in 3rd after a 13-lap “sprint” race and were the only Toyota to cross the line.
Can’t wait for next year…
Beauty and the Beast
Not sure who said race cars don’t have a sense of beauty to them. Ever seen a Le Mans prototype or Formula 1 car? There is no doubt an aesthetic that follows the physical form of the vehicle.
A blog post will follow with more shots from above. Stay tuned!
sunday morning
Gotta have that cup of joe to get juiced up. Today also happens to be a gorgeous day in The City.
austin healey 3000 mk2
For some reason, we got the bright idea to get up at 5am on a Sunday to shoot video of this Austin Healey 3000 Mk II. Luckily, it was a gorgeous morning in San Francisco. I packed the Leica, Canon Elan 7e, Contax, Ilford XP2, Portra 800, and Fuji 400H.
Richard Photo Lab just doing wonders on these scans again. Brotogs, check us out on at
facebook.com/brotogs, we’re always up to something…
a new friend
A short but sweet post. Our house, aka YorkStation, has seen a new visitor as of late. This kitty seems to like us and our backyard. So much that we see him (or her) everday. It’s great company! Oh, and I cant forget… These are straight scans. Zero adjustments. None. Zip. Take THAT, digital!
a roll of fuji and bernal
I had a roll of Fuji 400H in the M6 and it needed to be shot. For me, it’s challenging to shoot when I dont have something specific to shoot. It happened to be nice this day so I thought I’d challenge myself with this. I knew this stuff needed to be overexposed and getting these back was a reminder of that.
brotogs meet-up on march 24th
Brotogs met up again to discuss what we’re doing next. Always a fantastic evening “with the boys.” If you’re wondering who the cute puppy is, his name is Henry and he’s six months old.
a yoga night at yorkstation
Modeling credit to Jen Hawkins and Bridget Kleiner for all their yoga poses and beauty. Credit to Carlo Silvio for the lighting and seamless backdrop.
a roll sent on mistake
I had ordered a roll of Fuji Velvia 50 120 but this isn’t it. This is Kodak Portra 160 NC in 35mm. Yeah, I know, way different ends of the spectrum. But why not shoot it anyway and learn me some more film?! “Masterfully” scanned at my local costco and color-corrected by me later in Aperture. Cannot wait for my RPL scans to come back!
point reyes
While the rest of the country was sacked in with snowstorms we went to the beach. I heart California. Can you spot the film shots?
